Un-named Four Page Flyer for Walker's Pocket Camera
William H. Walker & Co.
Undated - c.1882

 .pdf version

William Walker formed his company in 1880, and, by 1881, was producing a wooden box camera called Walker's Pocket Camera.  As advertised below, it was available in mahogany, ebonized (black lacquer finish), or cherry.  One reason that Walker's Pocket Camera is important in the history of photography is that it is marketed to amateurs, to whom it is suggested that they buy an Outfit, containing everything needed (see the complete list below)  to take, develp and print photographs, including instructions.  In 1883, Walker sold his business, which became the Rochester Optical Co., who manufactured the most innovative of Walker's designs, the American Challenge Camera.
