was reportedly founded in 1897, hence their 10th catalog in 1906-1907.
Ansco products are featured, as well as B&J's own house brands, Ideal and
Ingento. The view cameras appear to have been manufactured by Seneca, and
marketed by B&J. In the Ninth Annual Report of the Factory
Inspectors of Illinois, dated 15 Dec 1901, p. 128, under Portraits, Artists'
Specialties, Art Novelties, Burke & James is listed at 109-111 Wabash Ave., and
having 54 total employees, 36 males >16, 14 females >16, and 4 females
<16. They are the largest photographic firm in Chicago at the time.
