Scovill Mfg. Co.
American Scholar's Equipment,
ABC Photographic Outfit
Scovill & Adams Catalog, 1892, p.
2

Date Introduced: - ; Years
Manufactured: c.1888-1894
Construction: no swing; non-reversing; no
lensboard;
Materials: rigid body; no bed; no bellows; brass hardware
Sizes Offered: #1=4¼x5½; #2=3¼x4¼
Notes: very inexpensive camera; came with chemicals, pans,
printing frame, paper, plates - everything needed to take and print pictures; as the name
implies, it was a student camera; was a rigid tapered box instead of a bellows camera.
In the 1888 Scovill-Codman catalog and in the 1891 Scovill-Horgan, Robey catalog, the
ABC Outfit was advertised on a facing page to
the American Scholar; both had engravings showing the same camera -
apparently the No. 1 ABC was the No. 2 Scholar (3¼x4¼) with slightly
different accessories.
