E. & H.T. Anthony
Phantom Camera
6½x8½

Date Introduced: c.1889 ; Years
Manufactured: 1889-1895
Construction: front focus via
rack and pinion (gears internal to base); single swing; reversing by
rotating bellows and back; plywood lensboard
Materials: mahogany body; mahogany base; black fabric
bellows; brass hardware
Sizes Offered: 4¼x6½; 5x7; 5x8; 6½x8½;
8x10
Notes: This elegant design is
essentially an English compact style but with
Anthony's peculiar rotating bellows. The design appears
to have a tendency to loosen up over the years, and it suffers the fate of most
compact styles, in that the lens must be removed before collapsing, so often
goes missing.
