Stamps, front surface of platform: "Pat. Nov. 11, '84" (clamp hooks for making the bed rigid, disregarding that this design does not have the clamp hooks), Pat. May 18, 1886" (side-mounted thumb screw on rear standard for swing adjustment), and "Pat. Mch. 27, 1888" (spring back)

      This model could be had as just camera, or equipment: camera & canvas case & lens & tripodVariation 2, above, has nickeled hardware and a low profile spring back.  Variation 1 has brass hardware and a bulky spring back.  Is also known marked as: The Greenpoint Optical Co., Makers, Brooklyn, NY.

References:
not present in the 1898 and later Anthony catalogs, but earlier catalogs show the Variation 1 engraving.
